July 18--NIAGARA FALLS -- Niagara Falls has been selected to host the world's largest educational and scientific computing society's international conference next month. More than 2,000 members of the ACM-BCB are expected to attend the conference from Aug. 2-4 at Conference Center Niagara Falls. The three-day event will include educational workshops and seminars dedicated to the advancement in leading computing and bioinformatics technology. Specifically, workshops include Gene Network and Pathway Generations and Analysis, Computational Immunology Workshops and Next Generation Sequencing Data Analysis. Biology has always been a haven for microscopes, test tubes, and Petri dishes, but this conventional picture of the field is expanding rapidly. Sophisticated techniques adapted from physics, chemistry, and engineering enable scientists to use computers and robots to separate molecules in solution, read genetic information, reveal the three-dimensional shapes of natural molecules like proteins, and take pictures of the brain in action. All of these techniques generate large amounts of data, and biology is changing fast into a science of information management. ACM's more than 96,000 members come from industry, academia and government institutions around the world to unite and provides the computing field's premier digital library and serves its members and the computing profession with leading-edge publications, conferences, and career resources. Presenters and keynote speakers include Robert Cottingham of Oak Bridge National Laboratory, Mark Gerstein of Yale University and Dr. Jing Li of Case Western Reserve University. The conference will kick off ACM's efforts to better support the bioinformatics and computational biology community. "We are delighted that Niagara Falls USA and the Conference Center Niagara Falls have been chosen to host this prestigious event and it solidifies Niagara Falls USA as an International Conference destination," said Jill Scicchitano, general manager of Conference Center Niagara Falls.
